Getting started

Dough Sorter was built by a working artist who couldn't afford the tools he needed early on — so he made one you can.

New to Dough Sorter? Here's how to go from sign-up to paid in a few minutes. Follow these steps in order — each one links straight to where you need to be.

  1. 1

    Set up your business details

Add your logo, business name, and tax settings (GST or sales tax), plus the bank account you want invoices paid into. Every invoice pulls from these, so set them once and you're done.

    Open Business details
  2. 2

    Set your financial year

Tell Dough Sorter when your financial year starts (July for Australia, January for the calendar year, April for UK-style, etc.). Your reports and the year-end export will then default to your own financial year automatically.

  3. 3

    Add your clients

Create a client record for each person or business you bill. Then creating an invoice is a couple of clicks — their details fill in automatically.

  4. 4

Create and send your first invoice

Build an invoice with line items — your brand color and tax apply automatically, and the title shows 'Tax Invoice' when tax applies. Email it straight from Dough Sorter (a branded PDF is attached) and it marks itself as sent.

  5. 5

    Turn on follow-up reminders

Set a reminder schedule so overdue invoices chase themselves by email — the default is 1, 7, 14, 30, and 60 days after due. You can fine-tune the schedule and the reminder wording any time.

  6. 6

Get the app on your phone

Dough Sorter runs in your phone's browser — no app store needed. On iPhone, open it in Safari, tap the Share button, then 'Add to Home Screen'. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the menu (⋮), then 'Add to Home screen'. It opens full-screen like a native app, so you can snap receipt photos on the go.

    Go to Expenses
  7. 7

    Import past invoices (optional)

Bring in your history with the CSV import on the Invoices page. Download the template, fill it in, and your past invoices flow straight into your records and reports.
